Antic Order

from Deuseaville by Cinque Ports

/

about

Antic Order is a country-fried mix of love-in-despair lyrics and some inspired, Jerry Donahue-style guitar playing from Incredible Self Confidence’s Ben Bennett.

lyrics

It’s raining out there
So we stay inside
It’s raining out there, like knives
There’s a bitter wind that wraps the window pane
It’s calling something, we can’t say.

So it goes and came to pass
Our last chance in the underpass
So it goes almost made you laugh
Made you cry
Made you lie.

This sorrow mooning all about the place
Has left its mark by the fireplace
Which won’t light up for a thousand years
This house is a hotel
When you are here.

But if we called it all back, well what would we learn
By turns?
That the pulling it down only lasts for a while
By half
By none.

So it goes but it came out wrong
A dirty trick for a nonesuch crime
It’s so low that I don’t want to know
How it got there
Or if it’s still there.

You had waited all day to tell me that, what a brat!
It’s the kind of thing you’d do when you’re drunk,
So drunk,
But you’re not.

A rat-a-tat of laughter was the victor’s side
An antic order must preside
Over the dreadful leanings
That we have so contrived
Is all is all a master
So benign?
