The Light Never Leaves

from Deuseaville by Cinque Ports

/

about

The Light Never Leaves, a slightly psychedelic but, again, funky track that seems to be some kind of meditation on gender re-assignment, though one probably not possible outside the imagination of Phillip K. Dick. Out of phase guitars mix in with sinewy bass lines, ghostly mellotron, splashing cymbals and right in the middle a guitar solo ripped straight out of Hot Chocolate’s Everyone’s a Winner.

lyrics

Baby I’ve lost my way, maybe I’ve seen
all the things that I’ve wanted to see
I cannot think of the past,
I cannot think in terms no longer of use

I need to feel a second chance,
I need to feel the woman that used to be me
can you see it in my eyes?
Can you see all of things that I want to be real?

Baby I’ve lost my way, but I’m hoping that it’s alright
for anyone to say what they mean, I mean I got that from you
I was all open for the light never leaves

leaves me

leaves you

Can it be this way? Can we be both of the sexes?
Hidden under a tree, or in Attic painted vases
Licking at both cheeks that treated you to its assets
Holding on to the one that we need for a light never leaves
It was for certain that we’d come here again.
